Historicization and its consequences – debating political articulation of a traumatic past
On February 26th, 2015, an artist talk was hosted at Künstlerhaus – Halle für Kunst und Medien in Graz (AT) between Jelena Juresa & Aneta Stojnic, in the framework of Jelena Juresa’s exhibition “Mira, Study for a Portrait” at Künstlerhaus – Halle für Kunst und Medien, 2015.
This is the first talk in the series of ongoing public talks that will be developed in the framework of Jelena Juresa’s research at Ghent University, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Research centre S:PAM and KASK Conservatorium, in coproduction with “f.act – forum for gender discourse in art.” In her PhD research Jelena Juresa is focusing on three traumatic pasts of the twentieth century in the European context: the negation of war crimes after the dissolution of Yugoslavia in Republic of Srpska and Serbia, the construction of a national identity in Austria after the Anschluss and its relation to the silence on the Holocaust, and the construction of a Belgian identity in the aftermath of its colonial past.
Dr. Aneta Stojnic is theoretician, artist and curator born in Belgrade. Her professional work is characterized by strong connection between art theory and practice as well as interdisciplinary approach to art practices that affirm critical thinking.
